Exploring 7 Countries in 7 Days – An Epic European Adventure

Have you ever dreamed of embarking on an epic European adventure?

Imagine immersing yourself in the diverse cultures and breath taking landscapes of seven different countries in just seven days. I was dreaming about it, and I have done it!!!! Last month, on the 4th of June I packed seven pairs of pants, seven T-shirts and of course my camera into my backpack and I started my journey from Bristol Airport at 4 am in the morning. In this blog, I will take you on a whirlwind journey through Bergamo, Italy; Monserrat, Spain; Vienna, Austria; Stockholm, Sweden; Banja Luka, Bosnia and Herzegovina; Berlin, Germany; and Budapest, Hungary. Buckle up and get ready for an extraordinary adventure that will leave you with memories to last a lifetime.

Day 1: Bergamo, Italy

Our adventure begins in the captivating city of Bergamo, nestled in the Lombardy region of Italy. As you step into the picturesque Città Alta (Upper Town), you’ll be transported back in time. The medieval architecture, cobblestone streets, and ancient city walls create an enchanting ambiance. Take a leisurely stroll along the winding alleyways, discover hidden piazzas, and enjoy panoramic views from the Venetian walls. Don’t miss the stunning Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore with its ornate interiors and the awe-inspiring Rocca di Bergamo fortress. Indulge in delectable Italian cuisine, from mouth watering pasta dishes to creamy gelato. As the sun sets, savor a glass of local wine while taking in the romantic atmosphere of this charming city.

Day 2: Monserrat, Spain

Next on our itinerary is the mesmerizing mountain range of Montserrat in Spain. Just a short distance from Barcelona, this spiritual and natural haven will captivate your senses. Explore the Santa Maria de Montserrat Abbey, home to the revered Black Madonna. The abbey’s stunning location amidst rugged peaks and dramatic cliffs adds to its mystique. Consider taking a cable car ride for not forgettable panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. Whether you choose to hike through the mountains or soak in the serenity of the monastery, Monserrat will leave you with a deep sense of peace and wonder.

Day 3: Vienna, Austria

From the tranquil mountains of Spain, we venture to the regal capital of Austria, Vienna. Immerse yourself in the opulence and grandeur of this imperial city. Start your day with a visit to the awe-inspiring Schönbrunn Palace, the former summer residence of the Habsburg dynasty. Explore the lavish rooms, stroll through the beautifully manicured gardens, and catch a glimpse of the Gloriette, a triumphal arch offering panoramic views of Vienna. Continue your exploration in the heart of the city at the Hofburg Palace, a magnificent complex that houses museums, the Spanish Riding School, and the iconic Vienna Boys’ Choir. Indulge in the city’s coffee culture by sipping a traditional Viennese coffee at a historic café. End your day with a leisurely walk through the bustling streets of the city center, taking in the majestic architecture and vibrant atmosphere.

Day 4: Stockholm, Sweden

Leaving behind Vienna’s grandeur, we find ourselves in Stockholm, the capital of Sweden. Spread across 14 islands, this city effortlessly blends natural beauty with modern innovation. Begin your exploration in Gamla Stan, Stockholm’s charming old town. Lose yourself in its narrow cobblestone streets lined with colourful buildings, boutique shops, and cozy cafés. Visit the iconic Royal Palace, where you can witness the Changing of the Guard ceremony. Delve into history at the Vasa Museum, which houses the remarkably preserved 17th-century warship, Vasa. In the evening, savour a delicious meal of traditional Swedish cuisine, such as gravlax or meatballs, and enjoy the vibrant nightlife of this dynamic city.

Day 5: Banja Luka, Bosnia and Herzegovina

Our adventure now takes us to the lesser-known gem of Banja Luka, located in Bosnia and Herzegovina. This city seamlessly blends Ottoman and Austro-Hungarian influences, creating a unique cultural tapestry. Stroll along the picturesque banks of the Vrbas River, which cuts through the heart of the city. Explore the Kastel Fortress, a historic landmark that offers panoramic views of Banja Luka. Visit the iconic Ferhadija Mosque, a symbol of the city’s multicultural heritage. Immerse yourself in the local culture by sampling traditional Bosnian cuisine, such as cevapi (grilled minced meat), burek (pastry filled with meat or cheese), and sip on a refreshing Bosnian coffee. The warmth and hospitality of the locals will leave a lasting impression, making Banja Luka a hidden treasure worth discovering.

Day 6: Berlin, Germany

From the lesser-known Banja Luka, we make our way to Berlin, the vibrant and cosmopolitan capital of Germany. Known for its rich history, thriving art scene, and dynamic nightlife, Berlin offers a fascinating blend of old and new. Begin your exploration at the iconic Brandenburg Gate, a symbol of the city’s unity and resilience. As you stroll along Unter den Linden Boulevard, immerse yourself in history by visiting the historic remnants of the Berlin Wall, including the East Side Gallery. Delve into the city’s cultural offerings by exploring Museum Island, home to world-renowned museums and galleries. Embrace the creativity and diversity of Berlin by visiting trendy neighbourhoods like Kreuzberg and Friedrichshain, where you can discover street art, alternative boutiques, and vibrant markets. As the sun sets, experience Berlin’s legendary nightlife, where you can dance the night away in renowned clubs and bars.

Our final destination is the captivating city of Budapest, often referred to as the “Pearl of the Danube.” Split by the majestic river, Budapest offers a seamless blend of stunning architecture, rich history, and vibrant culture.
